the formation of fluorgypsum

Fluorgypsum is a waste residue of calcium sulfate. It produces by the reaction fo sulfuric acid and fluorite in the production of hydrofluoric acid. It is mainly from fluoride manufacturers, including inorganic fluoride and organic fluoride production plants and other hydrofluoric acid production plants. 


Fluorite and sulfuric acid mixed at a ratio of 1:1.3 and heated in a rotary furnace (250-280 degrees). After chemical reaction: CaF2 + H2SO4 = CaSO4+ 2HF, it will produce hydrogen fluoride (HF) and calcium sulfate (CaSO4).  Hydrogen fluoride gas is condensed and collected to produce hydrofluoric acid, and the solid product: calcium sulfate is gypsum. Because it contains a small amount of unreacted CaF2, it is also called fluorogypsum.
